JazzArts Academy Merit-Based Scholarships for 2024-2025!
Video Audition Submissions due Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 5:00pm.
Finalists will be notified on Friday, May 24, 2024 and receive an invitation to audition in-person on June 2, 2024.
Video Audition Submission Requirements
Piano, Bass, Guitar, Woodwinds, Brass, Miscellaneous Instruments
– One (1) 12 bar blues (melody and at least 4 choruses of improvisation)
– One (1) jazz standard in swing style (melody and at least two choruses of improvisation)
– One (1) Latin or Afro-Cuban style (melody and at least two choruses of improvisation)
– Backing track or live rhythm section must be audible behind soloist.
Drumset
Play one (1) swing jazz standard using the following instructions:
Chorus One: Play appropriate style while singing melody
Chorus 2: Play song rhythmically on drumset
Chorus 3 & 4: Improvise/solo over the form for two choruses.
Demonstrate the following grooves (style-appropriate fills may be included) for 16 bars each:
– Medium Swing (BPM 120)
– Fast Swing (BPM 240)
– Bossa Nova (BPM 120)
– Funk (BPM 90)
Video Submission Instructions
Students may submit through one of the following options.

- Email the three (3) videos directly to Dr. Patrick Brown, Education Director at pbrown@thejazzarts.org
- Send them via Google Drive with a link to a folder containing the three (3) videos. Note: A Google account is free.
- Send via Dropbox with a link to a folder containing the three (3) videos. Note: A Dropbox account is required.
Final Round (in-person) is Sunday, June 2, 2024.
