This week was the anniversary of the first sit-in, right here in Greensboro NC,  For Black History Month, JazzArts Charlotte, seeks to offer a lens of jazz and civil rights history to illuminate the efforts of the past and demonstrate their impacts and messages for today, with workshops and a culminating performance of the groundbreaking album “We Insist!”

Sean Mason is a piano player from Charlotte and alumni of JazzArts Academy. He’s now a sophomore at Juilliard but has already played in the Jazz at Lincoln Center program and in quartets with Wynton and Branford Marsalis. “Be on the lookout for this kid.”
