One of the pre-eminent jazz-fusion groups that brought jazz and funk together, performed by North Carolina’s pre-eminent saxophonists and musical educators.
Weather Report’s eponymous first album in 1971 caused a sensation in the jazz world. Featuring Wayne Shorter on tenor and Joe Zawinul on keyboards, Weather report would go on to release 14 albums in 16 years, earn six Grammy Award nomination and win a Grammy in 1979 for Best Jazz Fusion Performance. Their music featured textured sound and the newest developments in music technology and processing. And during Jaco Pastorius’ time with the group, they had the funkiest groove in jazz.
As one of the area’s leading saxophonist and flutist David has performed with The Four Tops, Temptations, Billy Preston, The Coasters, The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Marian Mcpartland, Freddie Redd, Milt Hinton, Christian Scott and many others. As a jazz educator, David is a member of the South Central Band Directors Association and the Music Educators National Conference. His lifelong goal is helping area students progress on their journey to becoming successful musicians.
