Instructor Bio

Colin Ray has been surrounded by music his whole life, from choirs and musicals to guitar and even violin lessons. Since his first private drum lesson 20 years ago at age 11, he has studied everything from jazz, marching, and orchestral percussion to funk, pop, rock, Latin, and R&B, among other styles/genres. Eventually, he went on to earn his Bachelors’ degree in Music from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he studied privately with composer and percussion guru Rick Dior. He has been teaching adults and kids consistently for the last five years.  Colin is a freelance performer in the Charlotte and surrounding area and a member of several local bands that perform both original material and covers. As a teacher, he is a firm believer in building a strong foundation through hand technique, reading, and exploring multiple genres in an effort to develop well-rounded musicians.
