Jazz Appreciation Month

April is Jazz Appreciation Month!

Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) was created in 2001 by Dr. John Edward Hasse, curator at The Smithsonian’s Museum of American History. It’s a time when organizations, musicians, educators, and fans can focus on celebrating our favorite music: Jazz.

So what’s going on in Charlotte for Jazz Appreciation month? Don’t worry, Jazz Arts Initiative has got you covered! We are presenting Delfeayo Marsalis at a Special Edition of The JAZZ ROOM. We are also launching a new program, Jazz In Session at the Harvey B Gantt Center.

Beyond that there are extensive resources online and here in Charlotte to take advantage of. Jazz is a massive universe. Explore the links below and feed your mind. Perhaps you send them off to somebody you know who is new to Jazz or looking for inroads to the music you already enjoy. Better yet, bring someone new to Jazz to The JAZZ ROOM, or any of the other Jazz events going on this month. Together, we can cultivate a whole new audience for our favorite music!
