SUMMARY:Rez Abbasi FREE Jazz Youth Workshop
DESCRIPTION:February 24th\, 11:00am-1pm at The Stage Door Theater\nJazzArts Charlotte welcomes Rez Abbasi for a jazz educational workshop. As a way to deepen the interaction of our national jazz performing artists with the local music community\, JazzArts Charlotte welcomes student musicians from the Charlotte area and beyond to learn from this world-renowned jazz innovator. \nThis applied workshop is open to middle and high school-aged musicians\, with at least one year of experience on their instrument. All instruments are welcome – you are invited to bring it along. \nFREE. Registration required. \nRez Abassi’s music has been dubbed “so vivid it can almost be tasted” by All About Jazz. Considered by many to be one of the foremost modern jazz guitar players in the world\, his music is a vivid synthesis of his roots in Pakistan\, his childhood in California\, and schooling in jazz and classical sounds. His 2005 recording “Snake Charmer” created a stir due to his organic approach in blending two complex musical genres – jazz and Indian music. He was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship for composition in 2021 and voted #1 Rising-Star Guitarist in the 2013 DownBeat Critics Poll. \nThank you to the program sponsors and supporters\, who each bring jazz alive in Charlotte: Infusion Fund\, Knight Foundation\, Doris Duke Foundation\, North Carolina Arts Council\, Arts & Science Council and O’s Place Jazz.
