DESCRIPTION:Saturday September 28th\, 11:00am-12:30pm at The Booth Playhouse\nJazzArts Charlotte welcomes Pedrito Martinez and his Group for a jazz educational workshop. As a way to deepen the interaction of our national jazz performing artists with the local music community\, JazzArts Charlotte welcomes student musicians from the Charlotte area and beyond to learn from this world-renowned jazz innovator. \nThis applied workshop is open to middle and high school-aged musicians\, with at least one year of experience on their instrument. All instruments are welcome – you are invited to bring it along. \nFREE. Registration required. \nThe Pedrito Martinez Group has its roots planted firmly in the Afro-Cuban Rumba tradition summed it up aptly for the New York Times calling it\, “complex\, blenderized Africa-to-the-New-World funk.” Since its formation in the current lineup in 2008\, the Pedrito Martinez group has developed into an extraordinarily tight and creative unit with a home base gig in Midtown Manhattan at Guantanamera. They have built a fan base that includes Steve Gadd\, Ravi Coltrane\, Taj Mahal\, Eric Clapton\, John Scofield\, Roger Waters\, Derek Trucks\, Herlin Riley\, and Will Lee. Pedrito Martinez was born in Havana\, Cuba\, Sept 12\, 1973. He began his musical career at the age of 11\, performing as vocalist and percussionist playing with such Cuban legends as Tata Guines\, Munequitos de Matanzas. \n  \nBooth Playhouse is in the upper level of Founders Hall.\nParking Recommendations: Bank of America Center Parking Garage Entrances at: Trade or 5th Streets between N.
