DESCRIPTION:Saturday May 31st\, 11:00am-1:00pm at The Stage Door Theater\nParking Recommendations: Bank of America Center Parking Garage; Entrances at: Trade or 5th Streets between N. College and N. Brevard Streets. \nJazzArts Charlotte welcomes Emmet Cohen and his trio for a jazz educational workshop. As a way to deepen the interaction of our national jazz performing artists with the local music community\, JazzArts Charlotte welcomes student musicians from the Charlotte area and beyond to learn from this world-renowned jazz innovator. \nThis applied workshop is open to middle and high school-aged musicians\, with at least one year of experience on their instrument. All instruments are welcome – you are invited to bring it along. \nFREE. Registration required. \nCohen is an internationally acclaimed jazz artist\, a dedicated educator\, the winner of the 2019 American Pianists Awards\, and a finalist in the 2011 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition. Cohen headlines regularly at Jazz at Lincoln Center\, the Village Vanguard\, and Birdland\, and has appeared at the Newport Jazz Festival\, Monterey Jazz Festival\, and North Sea Jazz Festival among other renowned festivals. His artistry has taken him to venues and festivals in over 30 countries. Cohen’s entrepreneurial energies led to his developing “Live From Emmet’s Place\,” a live-streamed “Harlem rent party” that unites a worldwide audience via tens of millions of internet views. \n  \nThank you to the program sponsors and supporters\, who each bring jazz alive in Charlotte: Infusion Fund\, Knight Foundation\, Doris Duke Foundation\, North Carolina Arts Council\, Arts & Science Council and O’s Place Jazz.
